The awards took place last week at the beautiful Bramshaw Golf Club in the New Forest. It was the very first year of the awards, created to celebrate women in the golf industry across all fields — from retail and coaching to media and innovation.
As many of you know, Surprizeshop is truly a family business. Jason and I started it 25 years ago, just two months after our son Haidan was born. It all began from our home, where at one point the only space not taken over by boxes was the hallway! It quickly became clear that we needed to find office space — or risk divorce! And the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, Haidan and our daughter Chloe both work in the business, along with Haidan's girlfriend, Gemma. It really is a full family affair. Over the years, the team has grown into a close-knit group of incredible individuals who feel like our extended family. We often joke that working at Surprizeshop is like being in the family lounge — especially with Nova, our “Head of Security” (though she's easily bribed with a sausage!).
It was a huge honour — and an even bigger surprise — to be announced as the winner of Brand of the Year, especially as the award was voted for by lady golfers themselves. We were up against 34 other brands, ranging from global giants to exciting new start-ups. We were also thrilled to see Pure Golf shortlisted for an award, which is a big milestone for such a new brand in the golf world.
On a personal note, it was an emotional week. Just days before the awards, we said goodbye to Jason’s mum, who sadly passed away. She was one of our biggest supporters and, without hesitation, lent us her life savings to help start Golf 2 Golf — the home of Surprizeshop. My own mum was also an enormous help in those early days. Without their faith and support, none of this would have been possible, and we were so proud to honour them both during the awards.
With everything that happened that week, the award meant even more. We were so touched to see our hard work recognised. We know we don’t always get it right — sometimes tech lets us down or challenges pop up — but we always try our best. This business is built on faith, love, and respect, and we are incredibly proud of our team and the values we share.
During the awards, some of the customer nominations were read out, and their kind words genuinely moved us. To know that what we do matters to you is everything.
It was a truly memorable evening. It also happened to be Chloe’s birthday, and winning the award made it extra special. In true New Forest style, we were delayed on the way by a herd of cows — and on the way home, we had to swerve around a donkey! We were also lucky to share the evening with some wonderful people across the golf industry, including the inspiring women at our table and our brilliant Surprizeshop Ambassador, Alice Davis.
Most of all, we want to thank you — our customers — for your continued support and trust. You are at the heart of everything we do, and we are beyond grateful that you choose us for your prizes, gifts, and personal purchases.
